Samsung UK is intensifying efforts to combat phone theft by urging Galaxy device users to activate advanced anti-theft features, aligning with the UK Home Office’s nationwide campaign to address rising mobile theft crimes. The initiative follows a surge in phone snatching, prompting Samsung to issue a comprehensive security alert to over 40 million account holders through email, push notifications, and the Samsung Members app. The campaign emphasizes the enhanced Theft Protection suite introduced in the One UI 7 software update, designed to bolster device security and deter thieves.

Key features include Theft Detection Lock, which leverages artificial intelligence and motion sensors to detect suspicious activity, such as sudden running or erratic movements, and automatically locks the device screen to prevent unauthorized access. The Offline Device Lock allows users to remotely lock their phone and secure their Samsung account, even without an internet connection, ensuring data protection. Additionally, the update strengthens account recovery processes, making it harder for thieves to reset or repurpose stolen devices. These features are currently available on select models, including the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and S22 series, with Samsung planning to roll them out to older devices like the Galaxy A54 and S21 series in future updates.
To raise awareness, Samsung launched a robust advertising campaign, featuring prominent displays at London’s Piccadilly Lights, tube stations, and train stations, alongside digital promotions on online video platforms, connected TV, and broadcast video-on-demand services. The company is also collaborating with the Home Office and industry partners to refine these security measures. Samsung’s initiative underscores its commitment to user safety, aiming to reduce the appeal of stolen devices and support law enforcement efforts to curb phone theft across the UK. Users are encouraged to update their devices and enable these features immediately.
