Vivo’s in-screen fingerprint sensor
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo launched the world’s first smartphone with in-display fingerprint sensor at CES 2018 on January 10. The first in-screen fingerprint sensor made by US based touchscreen company Synaptics seen on a Vivo phone, is poised to change handset design in 2018. For phone enthusiasts, the real news is this technology, no home button breaking up your screen space.
Samsung’s new AI-enabled Exynos 9810 chispet
South Korean company Samsung showcased its next generation, Exynos 9810 chispet at CES 2018 which will power the upcoming Galaxy 9 and Note 9 smartphones. In terms of the overall performance, the company claims it is 40% faster than its predecessor, Exynos 8895. With its improved capabilities of the new processor, the adaptability to AI imaging functions are some of the special features, it has also other significant improvement in the 3D face recognition capability, just like Apple’s Face ID tech.
Sony Xperia 2018 lineup
The Japanese tech giant Sony unveiled its three new smartphones at the annual CES 2018 tech convention in Las Vegas. The company showed off three new mid-range and budget smartphones- the Xperia XA2, the Xperia XA2 Ultra, and the Xperia L2. Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra are the first Sony smartphones in the price segment to include finger print sensors and are powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor. While the Xperia L2 has a 5.5-inch screen and is powered by a MediaTek’s 1.5GHz quad-core processor with resolution of 1,280x720p.
Blackberry KeyOne Bronze edition
Blackberry unveiled its KeyOne Bronze edition at CES 2018. Powered by the processor Snapdragon 625 with 4 GB of RAM, however, unlike the Black edition which had single SIM slot, it comes with a dual SIM. Blackberry also announced the touch-only smartphone, Motion, at CES which is available in US from 12 January at $450. It runs on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor used in the KeyOne.
CAT S31 Rugged Smartphone
The CAT S31 also known as rugged smartphone was also showcased at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. This phone comes with some interesting features – fully waterproof, resistant to shock, dust, vibration, and humidity and is also drop-proof for up to 6 feet. However, the phone is not up to the mark when it comes it its specifications, as it doesn’t have a 5-inch display, a 13MP camera, and an 8MP front-facing camera. It was announced in October last year and is available in the US for $449.
